I have mixed feelings about Espresso Martini. They’re over-hyped, laborious and so many times excesively sweet. But I’m not gonna lie to you or to myself… when they’re well made, these insta-friendly coupes of boozy caffeine do exactly what they were created to do.
In case you’re wondering what was their purpose, the drink’s inventor, London bartender Dick Bressell, has explained he came up with the cocktail in the eighties after a model asked him “can you make me a drink that would wake me up and then f**k me up?.”
I’ve written about how the drink has become so popular, specially in Ireland. Now, if you don’t have an espresso machine at home (or you have one but can’t be bothered), you can still mix a caffeinated tipple… Just take your inspiration from a different classic: The Irish Coffee.
