When thinking about famous songs that talk about wine, a couple of classics pop up quickly: UB40’s “Red red wine”, Nancy Sinatra’s “Summer wine” and more recently, Carrie Underwood’s “Wine after whiskey.”
It has been proven that music can influence our perception of wine both at the time of tasting as well as at when being played in a shop, and I’m pretty sure we don’t need science to to tell us wine does the same for our perception of music.
Besides influencing each other, wine can also serve as inspiration for songs whether as the central theme or as part of the lyrics of a wide variety of tunes.
I took the quest of compiling a Spotify playlist with all the songs about wine I could find. I’ve included a couple of very famous ones that mention it briefly but are so iconic that they’ve earned their spot in the selection…
For example, The Eagle’s Hotel California with its “pink Champagne on ice”, Queen’s Killer Queen with the opening “She keeps her Moet et Chandon, in her pretty cabinet” and Blur’s Charmless Man because “he knows his Claret from his Beaujolais.”
Below, a public Spotify playlist with my boozy findings. It’s a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, and a lot of wine. Pour yourself a glass and press play!
If the embeded playlist below doesn’t work, here’s a link to it as an alternative.
